Highway Rush
Endless vertical-scrolling driving game. Dodge slower traffic, collect points, and survive as speed increases over time. Offline-first, 100% client-side Vanilla JS with procedural Web Audio API sound effects.
Use Cases
Highway Rush is an endless vertical-scrolling driving game built for quick reflex sessions and casual entertainment. Players steer a car down a busy highway, dodging slower traffic and collecting gold coins to maximize their score. As the drive continues, the speed steadily increases, raising the challenge and testing reaction time. It is ideal for developers, students, and gamers who want a fast, keyboard- or touch-friendly arcade break with no downloads, no accounts, and no network requests.
Because Highway Rush runs entirely in the browser using the HTML5 Canvas API and procedural Web Audio API sound effects, it works offline, protects privacy by keeping all state local, and loads instantly on mobile and desktop alike — with zero external assets to download.
How-To
- Objective: Drive as far as possible without colliding with other vehicles. Dodge slower traffic, collect gold coins for bonus points, and survive as the highway speed increases over time. Every second of safe driving adds to your score.
- Desktop controls: Use the Left Arrow / A keys to steer left and the Right Arrow / D keys to steer right. The car stays within the three highway lanes.
- Mobile controls: Tap the on-screen ◀ Left and Right ▶ buttons beneath the canvas to steer. The touch buttons work alongside swipe-friendly canvas interaction on mobile Safari and Chrome.
- Rules: Hitting another car ends the game immediately. Surviving traffic awards points, and each collected coin grants a bonus. The longer you drive, the faster the traffic moves, so difficulty ramps up automatically.
- Starting and restarting: Click Start Game to begin. After a crash, the button becomes Retry to launch a new run. Use Reset to clear the current run without driving.
- Audio: Engine hum, crash noise, and coin chimes are generated procedurally via the Web Audio API. Click Mute to silence all sound.
Highway Rush is a 100% client-side arcade game built with Vanilla JS and the Canvas API. No server, no network, no uploads, and no external assets — play it anywhere, entirely offline.
